My objective with the Bed Sessions is not to contrive photographs that exemplify the world as a good, happy, place, (although that sentiment may come through in some of the images), but instead exemplify the connections between people that are intimate, raw, and real.
In my wedding and portrait work, the industry standard is often to create a kind-of contrived spectacularly ‘happy’ or ‘moody’ or ‘dramatic’ moment. And I like doing that. It’s fun. But in the Bed Sessions I am creating a series of photos where the subject matter is exploring a more authentic kind of intimacy. A kind that isn’t necessarily always picture-perfect pretty, and is not at all contrived.
