Twas the last days of November, 2013, and in honour of Darshan’s 29th birthday, that we and a gaggle of Cortes Island’s most notable characters embarked on the second annual Misty Isles Refueling Expedition to Lund, BC.
Misty Isles is a gorgeous and immaculately fitted former fishing vessel now rigged as an expedition schooner that plies the water around Desolation Sound and the northern Salish Sea. Captain Mike Moore operates ‘Misty’ as a mothership for his kayaking adventure tours (mistyislesadventures.com) and as an environmental outreach tool to help folks see and appreciate this stunningly magnificent and threatened region.
Before putting the boat to bed for the Winter, Mike likes to have the diesel tanks filled and ready for Spring. The town of Lund has the nearest fueling dock and also has a great little bakery cafe called Nancy’s. It is a new tradition begun last year (see Rose’s Boat Ride) to make an outing and a pleasure cruise out of the fueling mission with several lucky islanders invited along for the ride. And the cinnamon buns.
